Consuming A Liquid Detox Diet Is Anything But Enjoyable

When it comes to giving the body a much needed rest, and allowing it to revitalize and re-energize, the best, simplest, way to get the job done is with a liquid detox diet. I know what you’re probably thinking, “This guy’s talking about fasting. I hate fasting. I’m outta here.”

Before you take off, just know that, yes, I am talking about fasting, but that’s just one part liquid detox diet will suckof a liquid diet. Here’s a couple of things you need to realize about detoxifying the body – it isn’t comfortable or enjoyable.

Anyone that tries to sell you that line, is looking to sell you something else as well. I’ve done a number of detoxes over the last ten years, and I’ve enjoyed none of them. The idea is not to feel warm and fuzzy about the process; the idea is to get the most benefit from that discomfort.

I mean, if you are going to be uncomfortable, why not make sure you’re going to get the most out of it, right? Fasting is one aspect of liquid detoxification. In our world, here at www.detoxcleansingdiet.org, we see fasting as only drinking liquids, every day, for a max out period of three days.

Of course, you can do whatever you’d like to do; but we think that three days is more than enough time to get the value provided by deciding to skip eating solid food for 72 hours; and only feeding the body vitamins and minerals through a liquid form.

So how do you fast? It’s quite simple. You can drink structured water for the duration of your fast. Structured water is taking filtered water, and applying a few elements to it that causes the water to become a dynamic property; and not your standard H2O.

You can add a little Himalayan sea salt, just a pinch, and a squeeze, or slice, of lemon. Lemons bring a ton of value to the game, including helping the liver function at a high level. There are other ways you structure water, like adding powdered greens.

Green drinks have become a staple in cleansing diets over the past 10 years. They’re easy to make, and have a ton of nutrients and vitamins. Of course, noting is quite as nutritious as a fresh juice; made from scratch right in front of you – but not everyone has access to a juicer, or health store that offers juicing.

In those instance, buying a high quality mixed green drink will work perfectly. Another way you can fast is with green herbal tea. When you eliminate the sugar, and all the other additives, that tend to take away more than they provide, you have an excellent liquid nutrient that’ easy to make, as well as consume.

One level below these options, for fasting anyway, is the mixed drinks; like you find with The Master Cleanse. This drink contains lemons, and maple syrup, for the most part, and is consumed for as little as seven days, or as long as 30.

Since The Master Cleanse can be done in a variety of ways, we don’t label it a fast; although it could be. If you decided to drink it, as it was originally created, then we suggest you only do so for three days. Although everyone’s genetic make-up is different, fasting after three days, in our experience, tends to affect your body adversely.

What doesn’t affect your body after the same period of time, is the second half to a liquid detox; and that’s a cleanse. A cleanse is made up of all the liquids we just covered, and also contains green smoothies, and fruit smoothies as well.

A smoothies, which is a blend of whole foods, is, essentially, drinking a bowl of fruits, or vegetable, or in some cases – both! Why cleansing can last for as many as 30 days, is because you are consuming whole foods – they happened to be blended into a baby food-type texture.

With juicing, precious minerals and nutrients are discarded in the process. These elements are critical to helping the body maintain it’s ability to function at a high level. When these elements are not fed to the body regularly, the body starts pulling what it needs from other areas.

Once this begins, breakdown, and organ malfunction begins to take place. If you let that process continue, eventually it turns into cellular malfunction; and this causes disease. This is why we suggest fasting for short periods of time, which your body can easily handle; and cleansing for a longer period of time, like 7-10 days, which again – your body can easily handle.

However, in either case, because you are not eating, there will be discomfort. You will be annoyed, irritable, and tough to be around for a few days, but that pain is what gives the body rejuvenation. Take the next few days off, and start a cleanse or fast – your body will thank you for it.

I’ve expressed several times on this site, the value of cleansing out your digestive system to help regulate your inner environment, and maintain some sense of normalcy in a world that is bombarded by toxins – toxins that constantly find their way into your body.

The best way to accomplish is either through what we at DetoxCleansingDiet.org call detox fasting or detox cleansing. Although this may seem like semantics, we find that after we go over the differences between the two, our clients find it easy to understand, and even more important – easy to implement; so let’s get into it.

A detox fast consists of drinking liquid, and liquid only. Sure other fasts out there, are built around not eating at certain points in the day, and eating at others – and this is why we make sure our clients know that our way is just that – our way. It is not the definitive way, and if you want to go out and do your own thing; that’s your choice. But here at DetoxCleansingDiet.org a detox fast is drinking filtered, or distilled, water with a pinch of Himalayan sea salt, and a squirt of fresh lemon juice, to structure the water of for maximum benefits.

Himalayan sea salt is supposed to contain 84 minerals and elements, although I haven’t been able to find an actual study that outlines these elements; so it might be more hype than anything else. However, Dr. Barbara Hendel’s published work, titled, “Water and Salt, The Essence of Life” states that this kind of sea salt is important maintaining a healthy balance of electrolytes (the stuff you have no idea what they’re talking about in Gatorade commercials), helping the kidney get rid of excess acidity, and regulating blood sugar.

The lemon juice helps you maintain a healthy amount of alkalinity in the body, balancing your pH levels. It helps reduce inflammation in the joints, helps flush out toxins, aids digestion and helps with the production of bile, and a whole host of benefits. So we take these two elements and add them together, and we stress that this structured water be consumed at room temperature – never cold. Cold water causes veins to constrict, which makes it harder for the trace elements to reach your blood stream.

Other drinks that are allowed are mixed greens that have been broken down into a fine powder you can mix with water. The producers of these greens claim that the greens “come to life” at the cellular level when they are mixed with water. Who’s to say if this is really true or just clever marketing, but one thing it doesn’t do is hurt you – that’s for sure. If you are going to buy greens, make sure to get a product with only the best quality of greens – organic.

The last liquid are fresh green juices, and these are juices with nothing else but green vegetables; which have a high level of chlorophyll in them. Chlorophyll helps the digestive process, helps formulate hemoglobin and red blood cells, and detoxifies toxins that can lead to cancer just to name a few of the benefits.

These three kinds of liquids are used during a fast, which can last as long as three days.  We don’t advocate going longer than three days on a fast because the metabolism actually slows down, as the body goes into self-preservation, believing it is in the beginning stages of a starvation. This process then releases the stress hormone known as cortisol, which causes a whole host of problems – most importantly, storing the belly fat known as “visceral fat.” Fasting can also damage muscles, which occurs because there are such high levels of cortisol in the system. All this cortisol releases amino acids from your muscles, and converts them into sugar. In other words, your muscles are being jacked for their amino acids – which then helps to break down your muscles.

There are even more reasons why we don’t advocate fasting past a few days, but this is more than enough reason for most clients before they agree. If you want to do more, once again, that is your business; and we wish you good luck on your journey.

A cleanse is made up of everything found in a fast, but green smoothies are allowed, which is a blend of green foods. Salads can be consumed as well, and in some instances where some of our clients are not able to handle a full “green” cleanse, we give them the option of adding fruits to the mix as well. With a cleanse, because you can eat, and because a smoothie is, essentially, still a whole food that has not been stripped of important fiber, we focus on seven to ten day cleanses. Although it is possible to stay on a cleanse for as long as 30 days, we don’t advocate it; just because it isn’t very practical in the world we live today.

A very easy cleanse to do is a 2 day cleanse, which is just applying everything we talked about, spread out over the course of two days. I believe, anyone can do a 2 day cleanse, even children, although it’s probably not a good idea if they have not been brought up with cleansing as a part of their experience – better to let them grow into pre-teens before introducing the concept to them; and even then it’s going to be hard – believe me, I know from personal experience. My son looks at like I have two heads when I ask him to do a cleanse; but I’m determined, and I know I’ll get him to submit at some point in time!

So there you have it, a cleanse anyone can do. The question is, are you going to read this and say, “Wow, sounds like a good idea,” as you go about your day; or are you going to take the next step and actually implement it in your life? This stuff only works when you work it. Check it out, the worst that can happen is that you last one day – that’s one day more of rest than they are getting now, which only helps.
