If you’re looking up 21 day detox diet plans, you are one bad mofo! I am a bonafide health nerd, and it took me a very long time to work up the nerve to do a 10 day cleanse, let alone a three week cleanse. So with that being said, I salute you for wanting to take that step.

I’ll be 100% transparent, I’ve never done a cleanse for that long, and that’s because I honestly have no interest in sticking to something so strict. Once again, I’m a health and fitness enthusiast, I’m not an expert.

I have no desire to show the world what’s possible with all-out mental focus. I commend those people, I think they’re awesome, but I’d rather be hanging out with friends eating a crappy salad, than doing anything like a 40 day fast, or 90 day cleanse.

The reason behind a detox is to reset your system. After piling on pounds of noxious toxins into your body on a regular basis, it only makes sense that we give it a break every so often. I mean, we always find out how many weeks’ vacation they give us whenever we start a new job – why is that? Because we want to setup our time to chill out.

The same gos for your internal organs. They are working at all hours of the day. Many if us at times during the day that throw our system for a loop. So what ends up happening? You go to sleep at around midnight, and while you’re dead to the world, your body is still working like it’s the middle of the day.

Of course, many of us don’t get nearly the amount of sleep we really need to be functioning at a high level, so you end u sleep deprived, and your body is working from a deficit due to the lack of rest, while having to work overtime while your brain rested.

Now what happens? You force yourself up, take a shower, and start the day right by pounding down a cup of coffee, or energy drink, to get the system going. You follow this weird routine day in and day out, and then we wonder why heart disease, and cancer, are killing us off in waves.

Hey, these diseases are not floating around in the sky. These are lifestyle diseases, and how we live, is going to determine just how healthy, or unhealthy, we will be as we begin to age. We’re all going to get old, you can make believe it doesn’t exist, and run the risk of living the last half of your life in a terrible state.

I’m more of a give-me-the-worst-case-best-case-scenario guy. If you tell me what’s ahead, and I actually get to make the choice as to what my chances are, then I’m going to do everything I need to do to put myself in the best positon possible.

If you’re here on this site, looking for information on cleansing for three weeks, than you are just like me; so here are some pearls you may want to use during your cleanse:

Stick to green whole foods most of the time for the best possible cleanse. Fruits tend to be of a sugary-nature, and you can avoid all that by staying with the greens.

Decide on a dummy-proof, boring diet you can follow with very little thought. If you end up buying all these complicated recipes that require pinches of herbs and spice that you need a magic man to provide, you’re going to give yourself more ammunition to drop off the program. Collect a few easy meals, and a few simple smoothies and juices; and get to work.

Try to avoid exercise during your cleanse if you’re a newbie; in other words, if you are new to the world of detoxes. Working out puts a strain on the body, and this is going to cause you to get ravenous. When all you’re eating is salads, and drinking smoothies, and you end up starving yourself – how good are the chances that you’re going to end the day on the program?

The chances dwindle rapidly with each rep and set you add to the workout. The best thing you can do is to walk at a brisk pace throughout your cleanse. This doesn’t put too much of a load on your system, and a few salads can handle that kind of work, so walk it out.

Lastly, make sure to make the cleanse itself a small part of your day. If this detox is one of your main priorities, you give it way too much thought, and could wind up losing it altogether. On the other hand, if you take it too lightly, you could end up eating, or drinking, something by mistake that takes you off the cleanse.

I think you need to keep everything in it’s proper perspective. You’re detoxing to become healthier – period, end of story. It doesn’t have to be the beginning of a new life, or the start of something grand. Sometimes we put too much emphasis on things that don’t deserve them.

You’re detoxing to help get you healthier, and when you get off the cleanse you’re going to continue eating a detox-like diet from that point on. If you say that to yourself, almost matter-of-factly, then it doesn’t become this thing that becomes bigger than what it really is.

I wish you all the lick in the world, and just know, that other have done cleanse for longer periods of time; so if they can do that, you can definitely do this!

Sure you can lose weight with a juice fast, but losing weight is a by-product of all the other benefits it provides. When you focus on a fast, the juices and water flush out toxins form your system. However, after a few days of returning to a normal diet, the water that was flushed out returns. So the 10 pounds you lost, over the course of two or three weeks, will make it’s way back if you don’t start exercising or adapting a new diet.

The intelligent thing to do would be to do both, you would think right? Unfortunately that isn’t the case with most people living here in the U.S. But if you were to ask someone you know who was brave enough to get on a fast for a few days, what their experience was like, they would most likely say it was horrible. They would say they were hungry, and couldn’t wait to eat the minute their fast was over.

I experienced this myself to be honest. I remember being on a fast for four days, and I was so sick by day four, I couldn’t take it anymore and that’s because I did the whole process completely wrong. At the time I thought I was spot on, but looking back I laugh at just how idiotic I was.

I was juicing everything in one day, and leaving it in plastic container sin the fridge so all I had to do was grab a juice and keep going. That is exactly what you DO NOT want to do when you’re juicing. A juice needs to be consumed immediately after it’s done. The longer it hits the air, the more oxygen attacks it, and destroys the nutrients it has. To make it worse I was putting all this juice into plastic containers. The juice will start to strip the plastic within the container, and some of that plastic ends up in the juice itself, which you take into you system when you drink it.

Even if had done that part correctly, I would’ve still had to have dealt with all the hunger pangs; and that was because I didn’t prepare for the fast, and I didn’t drink the amount of water I was supposed to – which would’ve kept the hunger feeling away. A cleanse is made up of green foods and drinks, including juices, and smoothies. A fast is just juices and structured water – nothing else.

So in our little world, there is no such thing as a juice cleanse, only a juice fast or juice detox. Now that we cleared that up, you want to make sure you eat only water-based foods leading up to your fast – at least three days before you start. You also want to make a good portion of those foods organic apples – and yes, eat the skin.

Drink two tablespoons of olive oil on the night before the fast, which helps with digestion, and you want to break the fast with fresh orange juice. You follow this routine for three months in a row, and you are detoxed for the year. Understand this is just one way to detox. There are many more, and each provides it’s own unique set of benefits.

Detoxing the body is important, for a whole host of reasons. The easiest way to think about it is to see your body as your car. If you aren’t maintaining your car properly, then it’s going to break down, and you may need to buy a whole new car altogether. Well, you don’t get the same chances with your body. If you let your body break down, you may not get a second shot at making things work.

My father had a ton of opportunities to get his life back on track, but just refused to take the simple steps to requiring health in his life, and it cost him. When people hear the phrase “juice cleanse,” they can get all bent out of shape, because they visualize all their favorite foods going away, and being replaced with creepy-looking juices they have to  pound down all day long. And you know what’s kind of interesting? They’re absolutely right!

Hey, I’m a health enthusiast, not a health expert; so I don’t fake myself out like I know many experts tend to do. They’ll tell you, it’s not going to be nearly as bad as you think it is. It’s going to taste like this, you can get it taste almost like that – it’s all nonsense. Crappy food tastes unbelievable at times, and it’s why we continue to eat it.

With that being said, the reason why we love the bad foods that we eat on a regular basis, is because our taste buds have de-sensitized due to all the toxins we have in our body. If we were “cleaned out” so to speak, we would not have to fight our way through something like a juice cleanse. But that’s the whole point of a cleanse, isn’t it? We need to get cleaned out, and it has to start somewhere, if it’s going to happen at all – so that means we need to bite the bullet and get ready to go through the process.

Now here’s the thing – even though the title of this has the word cleanse in it, it really isn’t. A cleanse is made up of juices, smoothies, fruits, salads, and basically anything water-based – which is why a cleanse can last up to 30 days, but a juice detox (like we like to call a juice fast) can last only a few days at most, before it starts doing more harm than good in the body.

When I did my first juice detox I nearly lost my mind, and that was because I did it all wrong to be quite honest. Today, I know how to do it so that it’s a breeze, but for someone getting started, I can tell you this – it’s going to be hard, it’s going to suck at times, and you’re not going to like it. But couldn’t that be said about going to work? It’s going to be hard getting up every day to go to work, at times it’s going to totally suck, and there will be times when you’re not going to like it – but you do it anyway!

Why do we go to work? Because we want that paycheck at the end of the week, to be able to provide for our family, right? Well, that’s the same thing here. We do a juice detox because of what we want to be able to do for our body; and that’s being healthy. I don’t go through a fast because I really like it. I’d be lying if I said that. I do it because I know it’s going to help me stay healthy, and if that means I have to suck it up, and go through some discomfort – not pain – just discomfort, for a few days to achieve that goal, then bring it on!

Not to wander too far off the path here, but one of the beefs I have with our society is not how fat we are as a nation today, but how soft we’ve become as a people. I’ve known some fat people that are plain hard as nails; and they’re fat because they want to be fat – plain and simple. These folks are more than capable of shedding it all off if they really wanted to, but for whatever reason, choose to live their life that way. Doesn’t make much sense to me, but hey – to each his own.

What I’m talking about is all the soft, whiny talk that goes on now.

  • “Oh man, my wifi isn’t working, what am I going to do?!”
  • “I have to walk to the store? Can’t you drive me?”

Or in this case,

  •  “I have to stop eating solid food for a few days, so I can let my organs rest and revitalize? How am I going to do that?”

I think we totally forget where we come from as a nation. We came from people that had to go through unbelievable hardships to be able to develop the land as it is today – so if you have to “rough it” for a few days without food, is that too much to ask?

I’m not saying, no water, juice, or food for three days – that would be hard; and that’s what many of our ancestors had to go through at times. I’m saying drink fresh juices, with nutrients in them, for a few days – that’s it! So helpfully that step back, and view of the big picture, makes this an easier process.

Now the easiest way to find juice cleanse recipes is, of course, the same way you came across this article – the internet. However, the reason for this article was to give you a baseline for how to go around searching. If you come across recipes that tell you to blend foods together, you know that’s not a juice detox, that’s a detox cleanse. If a recipe, or program, outlines juicing during the day, and eating fruit at might – that’s also a cleanse. If it stresses juicing during the day, and blending only green superfoods at night – that’s a cleanse as well. A juice detox is a juice fast; and a fast is drinking only liquids.
